If your home or light-commercial air conditioner was installed in the last decade or so, it probably runs on R-410A (often sold under brand names like Puron). Techs and contractors still need it for top-offs and repairs on those systems — and a lot of people are asking the same questions in 2026: Can I still buy R-410A? What size should I order? What does the AIM Act change for existing equipment? This guide answers those questions plainly, with links to EPA sources and to live product pages so you always see current pricing.

Quick answers

  • Can you still buy R-410A? Yes. Existing R-410A systems can still be serviced. New residential and light-commercial equipment is shifting to lower-GWP refrigerants under EPA’s AIM Act Technology Transitions rules, but that does not ban selling or using R-410A for systems already in the field.
  • What we sell: New (virgin) R-410A in factory-sealed cylinders. Absolute reclaims R-22 in-house; R-410A we sell is virgin refrigerant, not Absolute-reclaimed.
  • Sizes and price: 2, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15 and 25 lb cylinders, plus 1/4, 1/2 and full pallets of 25 lb cylinders. R-410A starts from $97 (2 lb).
  • Shipping: Free UPS Ground to the lower 48 (hazmat ground only). Weekday orders usually ship the same day when placed before 1 PM MST; add Ship It Today ($15) to guarantee same-day ship. That is same-day dispatch, not overnight delivery.

Can I Still Buy R-410A in 2026?

Yes. R-410A remains the service refrigerant for millions of existing split systems, package units, and heat pumps. What changed under the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act is mainly about new equipment, not about stripping R-410A out of systems that already use it.

Under EPA’s Technology Transitions program:

  • New residential and light-commercial air conditioning and heat pump products and systems face a GWP limit of 700, with manufacture/import and installation compliance dates that began January 1, 2025 for the covered subsectors (with limited exceptions for systems whose specified components were manufactured or imported before that date).
  • That pushes many new installs toward lower-GWP options such as R-454B and R-32.
  • It does not mean you have to replace a working R-410A system, and it does not ban buying virgin R-410A to service equipment designed for it.

Bottom line for techs: if the nameplate says R-410A, recharge with R-410A after a proper leak repair. Do not “upgrade” the charge to a different refrigerant without a full retrofit or equipment change designed for that refrigerant.

Virgin R-410A: What Absolute Sells

“Virgin” R-410A means newly manufactured refrigerant that has never been used in a system. That is what Absolute Refrigerants sells for R-410A: new refrigerant in factory-sealed cylinders.

A few clarifications that matter when you compare sellers:

  • R-410A here is virgin/new — not Absolute-reclaimed. We buy R-410A as bulk virgin and fill sealed cylinders for sale.
  • R-22 is different. Absolute is an EPA-certified refrigerant reclaimer in Scottsdale, AZ, and we reclaim R-22 in-house to AHRI-700 with in-house and third-party purity testing. That reclaim story applies to our R-22 line — see the R-22 Refrigerant Buying Guide — not to R-410A.
  • Cylinders are sealed and labeled for hazmat ground shipping. Branding on the empty cylinder can vary by stock; the product inside is virgin R-410A.

We are a wholesale refrigerant supplier. We do not sell complete AC or heating systems, and we do not perform leak repairs on customer equipment. If a system is low because of a small leak, we stock a 3-in-1 refrigerant leak sealant that many techs add to an order — that is a product sale, not a service call.

R-410A Sizes and Prices

We stock R-410A from small top-off cylinders up to contractor pallets. Pricing is live on each product page and updates with the store, so you do not need a quote form. The price you see is the price you pay (free standard ground to the lower 48; no separate hazmat fee on standard shipping).

For current pricing on every size, see the R-410A refrigerant category. Weights listed are refrigerant only, not the empty cylinder. Wholesale / bulk views also live under 410A Wholesale.

Which size do I need? A technician has to find and fix the leak first; charge weight depends on how much the system is missing. Small residential top-offs after a repair often fit 2–7 lb. Larger residential jobs land in 10–15 lb. Most contractors standardize on 25 lb for truck stock, and save the most per pound with 10/20/40-cylinder pallet buys.

What Drives R-410A Prices in 2026?

We will not quote other sellers’ prices, which change constantly. These are the factors that actually move R-410A pricing:

  1. AIM Act supply pressure. As new equipment moves to lower-GWP refrigerants, HFC supply rules and allocation still affect wholesale costs for virgin R-410A used in service.
  2. Season. Spring and summer heat waves push service demand, especially in the Southwest and Southeast. Buying before peak season can reduce scramble pricing.
  3. Cylinder size. Larger cylinders and pallets generally cost less per pound than small cylinders.
  4. Landed cost honesty. Some online ads look cheaper until shipping, hazmat, or “protection” fees appear at checkout. Our product pages show the cylinder price with free standard UPS Ground to the lower 48.
  5. Quality and seal. Factory-sealed virgin R-410A protects the compressor. A price far below market can mean mislabeled, contaminated, or improperly handled gas.

Who Can Buy R-410A? How the Rules Work

R-410A is an HFC substitute refrigerant regulated under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act and EPA’s rules at 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F. Briefly:

  • Sales. EPA’s refrigerant sales restriction covers refrigerant sold for stationary air conditioning and refrigeration and gives sellers verification and record-keeping duties (EPA, Refrigerant Sales Restriction).
  • Installation. Anyone who attaches gauges or adds or removes refrigerant must hold EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (EPA).

How our checkout works. At checkout, you either upload your EPA 608 card, or, if you are handing the refrigerant to a certified HVAC technician, you e-sign our waiver right at checkout. It takes a minute. We do not tell customers that a 608/609 card is required just to place an order — the waiver path is available. Our EPA Guidelines page has the details.

Venting refrigerants during service or disposal is illegal. Recovery and proper handling are the tech’s job in the field; Absolute sells the cylinder, not the service call.

R-410A vs Newer Options (R-454B and R-32)

If you are installing new equipment in 2026, the outdoor unit and indoor coil are increasingly designed for lower-GWP A2L refrigerants rather than R-410A. Absolute also stocks:

Critical safety notes for techs:

  • Never put R-410A in an R-22 system. R-410A runs at much higher pressures and needs POE oil and components rated for it. See What Happens if You Put R-410A in an R-22 System?
  • Never top off an R-410A system with R-454B or R-32. Different pressures, oils, and charge procedures. Match the nameplate.
  • R-454B and R-32 are mildly flammable (ASHRAE A2L). They need A2L-rated tools, procedures, and equipment — not a casual swap.

For older R-22 equipment that is still in service, see our R-22 Buying Guide and R-22 vs. R-410A.

How to Tell a Legitimate R-410A Seller

R-410A is still manufactured, so the scam pattern differs from phased-out R-22 — but bad cylinders still wreck compressors. Before you buy:

  1. Is it sold as virgin, factory-sealed R-410A? Vague “recycled” or unlabeled jugs are a red flag for stationary AC use.
  2. Is the cylinder properly labeled for hazmat ground shipping? Refrigerant ships UPS Ground as a regulated hazardous material — not air, not a random parcel trick.
  3. Is the price believable all-in? Compare the checkout total including shipping and fees. Absolute’s listed cylinder price includes free standard ground to the lower 48.
  4. Is the seller clear about EPA sales rules and checkout verification? Upload a card or e-sign a waiver — not radio silence.
  5. Will a certified tech install it? Buying the cylinder is one step; charging the system is another. Homeowners who are not certified should hand the cylinder to a 608-certified technician.

Shipping, Ship It Today, and Local Pickup

  • Free standard shipping to the lower 48. Cylinders ship UPS Ground. Refrigerant is hazmat, so it is ground only — no air and no true expedited delivery service.
  • No separate hazmat fee on standard shipping. The price on the product page is what you pay for the cylinder plus free ground.
  • Same-day dispatch (usual): weekday orders placed before 1:00 PM MST (Arizona time) usually ship the same day. See Dispatching Times.
  • Ship It Today ($15): add this upgrade at checkout to guarantee same-day ship when you order M–F before 1 PM MST. It is a same-day ship guarantee, not overnight or next-day delivery to your door.
  • Free pallet freight: orders of 10 or more cylinders ship by truck freight, free to the lower 48. A signature is required on delivery.
  • Local pickup: 7607 E Greenway Rd #700, Scottsdale, AZ, Monday–Friday, 8 AM–1 PM MST.
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–2 PM MST. Questions? Contact us or call (480) 625-4214.

R-410A FAQ

Can I still buy R-410A in 2026?
Yes. Existing R-410A systems can still be serviced with virgin R-410A. EPA’s AIM Act Technology Transitions rules mainly limit high-GWP refrigerants in new residential and light-commercial equipment; they do not ban selling R-410A for equipment designed for it (EPA).

Is your R-410A new or reclaimed?
New (virgin). Absolute’s R-410A is virgin refrigerant in factory-sealed cylinders. Absolute reclaims R-22 in-house as an EPA-certified reclaimer; that reclaim process is for our R-22 products, not R-410A.

How much does R-410A cost in 2026?
R-410A starts from $97 for a 2 lb cylinder, and 25 lb cylinders start from $287. Contractor pallets of 25 lb cylinders start from $2,250 (10 cylinders). Pricing is live on the product pages, so no quote is needed. See the R-410A category for current prices.

What size R-410A cylinder should I buy?
Match the job. Small top-offs often use 2–7 lb. Larger residential work fits 10–15 lb. Most techs keep 25 lb cylinders on the truck, and bulk buyers use 10/20/40-cylinder pallets for the best per-pound cost.

Can I put R-410A in an R-22 system?
No. R-410A runs at much higher pressure and is not a drop-in for R-22 equipment. See What Happens if You Put R-410A in an R-22 System?.

How do I buy if I’m not an HVAC technician?
At checkout, you either upload your EPA 608 card, or, if you are handing the refrigerant to a certified HVAC technician, you e-sign our waiver electronically at checkout. See our EPA Guidelines.

How fast will my R-410A ship?
Free UPS Ground to the lower 48. Weekday orders placed before 1 PM MST usually ship the same day; add Ship It Today ($15) to guarantee same-day ship (dispatch, not overnight delivery). Pallets (10+ cylinders) go by free truck freight with a signature required.
